The first days of 4K Yellow Class have been filled with new experiences and explorations as we begin to understand the new routines, meet new friends, and begin the learning and growing adventure together.
We begin the year focusing on “A Sense of Self.” Who are we as individuals, in our families, communities, and the larger world? How are we the same and how are we different from one another?
During Spanish and American Sign Language lessons we learned the simple greetings and the colors red (rojo), yellow (amarillo), and orange (anaranjado.) Art explorations included clay, painting, drawing, and collage. Gallery visits included a closer look at Preschool Perspectives: Tending and Collection Highlights: Purvis Young. Be sure to ask your child about all the different things we saw on our Gallery walks.
The children drew self-portraits as they looked at themselves in the mirror. We reviewed our body parts from head to toe as we warmed up for yoga class. We read books, including Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes and A Tiger Tail by Mike Boldt, to address the butterflies in our tummies about the first days of school. Whoever You Are by Mem Fox and It’s Okay to be Different by Todd Parr led our discussion on understanding how we are the same and different from others.
It has been truly enjoyable getting to know your children as we begin the school year. We are definitely looking forward to the upcoming weeks and all the adventures that await!
