Talking With Our Hands

American Sign Language (ASL) has been a daily language component in Yellow Class. The children have been using simple signs such as “hello,” “more,” “thank you,” and “please.” We are working on signing letters by singing the “Alphabet” song and the first letter of our names.

We incorporate ASL in our “Good Morning,” “Good Afternoon,” and “The More We Get Together” songs. The children are learning to sign the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, pink, black, brown, and white. “The Colors of the Rainbow” song is a favorite to sign and sing.

Coming up, we will be working on the signs for our emotions and feelings to help us express ourselves in a new way. Learning the signs for manners, feelings, and family members will build our sign language repertoire.
